Submission Workflow

1. Lock Final Inputs

Confirm trim size, final page count, paper type, and bleed requirement before cover math.

2. Calculate Cover Geometry

Compute spine width and full-wrap dimensions using final interior inputs.

3. Validate Interior Safety

Check margin and gutter safety to prevent binding risk drift.

4. Export Production PDFs

Export interior and cover from final sources with no hidden scaling.

5. Run Final Preflight

Use a checklist to catch mismatch risks before upload.

6. Upload and Verify

Upload once, review warnings carefully, re-export only if confirmed.

Common Failure Triggers

Cover Size Mismatch

Trim, bleed, spine, and full-wrap must be regenerated from the same final page count.

Spine Drift After Page Changes

A page-count change without recalculation misaligns title and barcode zones.

Bleed and Safe-Zone Violations

Backgrounds must extend through bleed while critical text stays inside safe areas.

Export Integrity Errors

Wrong page size or hidden scaling often triggers avoidable rejection loops.

KDP vs IngramSpark Print Specifications

Official KDP Print Specs

Bleed Requirements

If content extends to the edges of the page (images/background fill), KDP requires a 0.125 in (3.2 mm) bleed on all sides. This means your PDF target page size must include extra bleed dimensions beyond your trim size.

In practice, extend only what needs bleed (images, color blocks) and ensure other content lies within safe margin boundaries.

Margin Guidelines

KDP specifies minimum margins depending on your bleed choice: • Without bleed: outside, top and bottom ≥ 0.25 in (6.4 mm). • With bleed: outside, top and bottom ≥ 0.375 in (9.5 mm). For interior text and images near binding, also consider increased inner gutters for readability.

Cover and Full Wrap Geometry

Full wrap width formula:Full Width = 2 × Trim Width + Spine Width + 2 × Bleed Full Height = Trim Height + 2 × BleedSpine width itself depends on paper type and page count.
