View problemBleed setup and edge-extension problems in interior or cover files.
The bleed cluster covers failures caused by artwork that does not extend far enough beyond the trim edge. In print production, bleed is not decorative padding. It is a mechanical tolerance that protects edge-to-edge color and images from exposing white paper after trimming.
When bleed-related messages appear, the problem is usually a mismatch between what the file visually suggests and what the PDF geometry actually contains. A page can look full-bleed on screen while still failing if the final page boxes or exported dimensions do not preserve the required extension.
The most common causes are background elements stopping at trim, export presets that flatten or scale the page unexpectedly, and mixed document settings where some pages include bleed and others do not. Cover files also fail when the spread dimensions reflect one bleed assumption while the upload settings reflect another.
These issues multiply during revision cycles. A designer may regenerate the interior, adjust trim, or rebuild a cover spread, but forget to revalidate the bleed geometry on the exact PDF that gets uploaded.
Start by confirming whether the title is supposed to use bleed at all. Then compare final PDF dimensions against the selected trim mode. Inspect edge artwork on all critical pages, especially chapter openers, full-page images, and cover backgrounds.
After geometry is confirmed, validate the same file in your pre-upload workflow. Do not assume the source document is authoritative once the export has been rewritten or passed through another tool.
This index only keeps the pages being pushed in the current convergence window.
